Industry and Entrepreneurship

The Industry and Entrepreneurship Promotion Directorate is composed of two units, Industry Unit and Entrepreneurship Unit. The department ensures to improve competitiveness of existing Rwanda industries, Small Medium Enterprises, ensures the formulation, coordination and implementation of policies in support existing industries and emergence of new ones. The department also works along side different public and private stakeholders to support entrepreneurs within the country.

Functions of the Department

  • Leading the process of policy design, formulation of regulations and strategies on industry and SME development, National Employment Programme for start-ups and Entrepreneurship development.
  • Leads the coordination of government incentives to the private sector i.e., Value Added Tax Exemption and Industrial Customers for end-user electricity tariffs.
  • Clearly defines a road map for current and future industries in Rwanda.
  • Ensures the effective implementation of the national industrial masterplan aimed at developing industrial zones and SME parks.

              

  • Mobilizing resources, partners for the development of industries and SMEs.
  • Regulates, monitors, inspects and grants license to the gaming sector categories i.e., lottery, betting, gambling, casino.
  • Supporting entrepreneurship development institutions in accessing finance to develop SMEs
  • The Entrepreneurship unit oversees implementation of the Cooperative Policy under the Rwanda Cooperative Agency
